Jus Sibi Dicere Law and Legal Definition
Jus sibi dicere is a Latin term meaning ‘no one is entitled to take the law into one’s own hand’. One cannot declare or dictate a law himself. A person deprived of lawful possession is not entitled to recover the lost by any illegal means. S/he cannot repossess the lost thing by violence. Proper cause for obtaining possession is to seek lawful means of possessing the lost. This does not prohibit a person from retaining one’s lawful possession by avoiding others indulgence.
