Kansas-Nebraska Act Law and Legal Definition
The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 paved the way for a transcontinental railroad system. The provisions of the Act provided:
1. for the creation of the territories of Kansas and Nebraska; and
2. for opening new lands.
The Act granted power to the settlers to decide whether to permit slavery. The Act repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820.
