Kentucky Rule Law and Legal Definition
Kentucky rule is a legal principle applicable in some jurisdictions whereby dividend paid in the stock of the issuing corporation is considered principal and it brings about an adjustment in the basis of such stock in the portfolio. The general rule followed is, in the allocation of dividends by trustees as between income and principal, all dividends whether paid in cash or stock is regarded as income.
