Kerner Commission Law and Legal Definition
Kerner Commission refers to the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders established to investigate the causes of the 1967 race riots in the U.S. and to provide recommendations for the future. The chairman of the Commission was Otto Kerner. The Commission released its report on February 29, 1968. The report is to the effect that the U.S. was moving toward becoming two nations, black and white; and the riots were the result of a lack of economic opportunity for black communities.
