Kleptocracy Law and Legal Definition
Kleptocracy means "rule by thieves". It is used to refer to those governments that take advantage of governmental corruption. In a Kleptocratic government, there is the misappropriation of state funds at the expense of the wider population. Government officials attain personal wealth and political power without even the pretense of honest service. It does not denote an official form of government such as democracy, republic, monarchy, theocracy. Kleptocracies generally represent the corrupt forms of authoritarian governments, such as dictatorships, oligarchies, military juntas, or some other form of autocratic and nepotist government in which no outside oversight is possible.
