Kleptomania is a tendency to steal regardless of economic need. A person who has the obsessive urge to steal is called a kleptomaniac. The tendency is driven by emotional disturbance rather than material need. This is an uncontrollable urge to steal unnecessary materials. Legally kleptomania is not classified as insanity. Individuals are held responsible except when complete lack of control over their actions can be definitely established.
