National Agricultural Statistics Service Law and Legal Definition
The National Agricultural Statistics Service or NASS is the statistical branch of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The NASS conducts surveys and prepares annual reports on all aspects of the U.S. agriculture. The NASS is headquartered in Washington, DC. It has 46 field offices.
The NASS conducts surveys on areas such as: production and supplies of food and fiber, prices paid and received by farmers, farm labor and wages, farm finances, chemical use, and changes in the demographics of U.S. producers. Additionally, the NASS conducts the Census of Agriculture every five years.
