National DNA Index System Law and Legal Definition
National DNA Index System is an index system that is used to compare DNA profiles connected with a crime scene to DNA profiles collected from known convicted offenders. It is also known as NDIS. The NDIS was authorized by the DNA Identification Act of 1994. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation administers this national index. This system is usually operated at an undisclosed location.
