National Indian Gaming Commission [NIGC] Law and Legal Definition
National Indian Gaming Commission [NIGC] is an independent federal regulatory agency. NIGC was established pursuant to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 (Act). NIGC is constituted with a Chairman and two Commissioners, each of whom serves for a three-year term. The U.S. President appoints the Chairman which needs senate confirmation. The Secretary of the Interior appoints the other two Commissioners. NIGC has its headquarters at Washington, D.C. NIGC’s regional offices are located at Portland, Oregon; Sacramento, California; Phoenix, Arizona; St. Paul, Minnesota; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Washington, D.C.
