National Lawyers Guild Law and Legal Definition
The National Lawyers Guild is a non profit association of lawyers, legal workers, and law students. It was founded in 1937 as an alternative to the American Bar Association. The guild members are dedicated towards using the law to advance social justice and support progressive social movements. The federation ahs chapters throughout the United States, and its National Office is located in New York.
The National Lawyers Guild aims to:
Eliminate racism.
Safeguard and strengthen the rights of workers, women, farmers and minority groups.
Maintain and protect the civil rights and liberties, in the face of persistent attacks upon them;
Use the law as an instrument for the protection of the people, rather than for their repression.
