National Trade Data Bank Law and Legal Definition
National trade data bank refers to a data bank, which is established by the Secretary of Commerce ("Secretary") in the U.S. It is established pursuant to 15 USCS § 4906. It consists of data systems which contains data useful to policymakers and analysis concerned with international economics. It consists of information relating to data on imports and exports, that includes :
1.Aggregate import and export data for the U.S. and for each foreign country ;
2. Industry-specific import and export data for each foreign country;
3. Product and service specific import and export data for the U.S.;
4.Data on international service transactions.
The Secretary manages the national trade data bank to provide the most appropriate data retrieval system. The following are the functions of the data retrieval system:
1.To utilize data processing and retrieval technology in monitoring, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating the data and information contained in the data bank;
2.To use the most effective and meaningful means of organizing and making such information available to:
1.U.S. government policymakers;
2.U.S. business firms;
3.U.S. workers;
4.U.S.industry associations;
5.U.S. agricultural interests;
6.State and local economic development agencies; and
7.Other interested United States persons who could benefit from such information.
