National Wildlife Refuge Association [NWRA] Law and Legal Definition
The National Wildlife Refuge Association (NWRA) is an independent non-profit organization that works to conserve the U.S. wildlife by strengthening and expanding the National Wildlife Refuge System managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. NWRA was founded in 1975 by former National Wildlife Refuge System managers and employees.
NWRA’s mission is to preserve the U.S. wildlife heritage for future generations. In order to achieve its mission, NWRA initiates strategic programs that help to protect, enhance, and expand the National Wildlife Refuge System and the landscapes beyond its boundaries that secure its ecological integrity.
Some of the main objectives of NWRA are:
Draw ongoing attention to invasive species and stimulate momentum to combat the problem.
Build a powerful grassroots network throughout the nation. This would serve as an effective voice for local refuges and the broader refuge system.
Implement landscape conservation strategies that reach beyond refuge boundaries to prevent further loss of vital refuge buffer zones and wildlife corridors.
Take steps to handle important issues that threaten the strength and vitality of the refuge system.
