Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory [NRTL] Law and Legal Definition
A Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) is a testing facility recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as primarily private sector organizations that provide product safety testing and certification services to manufacturers.
An NRTL provides, to the extent needed for the particular equipment or materials listed, labeled, or accepted, the following controls or services:
a. implement control procedures for identifying the listed and labeled equipment or materials;
b. inspects the run of production of such items at factories for product evaluation purposes to assure conformance with the test standards; and
c. conducts field inspections to monitor and to assure the proper use of its identifying mark or labels on products.
