Office of Commercial and Business Affairs [EEB/CBA] [Department of State] Law and Legal Definition
The Office of Commercial and Business Affairs [CBA] is one of seven issue-oriented organizations within the Bureau of Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. CBA coordinates trade and investment matters in support of U.S. firms doing business overseas. The mission of CBA can be classified as two fold:
a. to ensure that private sector business concerns are fully integrated into U.S. foreign and economic policy; and
b. to engages U.S. government resources to assist and promote U.S. business interests overseas.
CBA provides information on important matters such as overseas market corruption and bribery, U.S. export controls on sensitive equipment and technologies, and business-related visas for employees, partners and clients of U.S. firms. CBA also organizes State Department advocacy on behalf of American businesses. In addition CBA also provides assistance in opening markets, leveling the playing field, protecting intellectual property and resolving trade and investment disputes. Further, CBA also promotes Global Women’s Business Initiative (GWBI) to encourage the success of potential high growth, high impact women-owned enterprises to foster growth in GDP and jobs globally.
