Office of Legal Policy [Department of Justice] Law and Legal Definition
The Office of Legal Policy (OLP) is a part of the U.S. Department of Justice that develops and coordinates Departmental policies. The office provides legal advice to the U. S. Attorney General and subordinate offices within the Justice Department.
The functions of OLP include:
a. to develop and implement the Department’s significant policy initiatives;
b. to handle special projects that implicate the interests of multiple Department components;
c. to coordinate with other interested Department components and other Executive Branch agencies;
d. to serve as the primary policy advisor to the Attorney General and the Deputy Attorney General;
e. to review and coordinate all regulations promulgated by the Department and all of its components;
d. to assist the Attorney General with responsibilities in recommending candidates for federal judgeships; and
e. to coordinate the judicial nomination and confirmation process with the White House and the Senate.
