Office of Legislative Affairs [Department of Justice] Law and Legal Definition
The Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) is a part of the U.S. Department of Justice that develops and implements strategies to advance the Department's legislative initiatives and other interests relating to Congress. The mission of OLA is to advise appropriate components of the Department on the development of the Department’s official policies through legislation initiated by the Department, by other parts of the executive branch, or by Members of Congress. The OLA explains and advocates the Department’s policies to Congress. The OLA also serves as the Attorney General’s centre for dealing with Department nominees, congressional oversight, congressional correspondence, and congressional requests for documents and access to Department employees.
