Office of Naval Intelligence [ONI] Law and Legal Definition
The Office of Naval Intelligence is the military intelligence agency that provides for the intelligence and counterintelligence and investigative and security requirements of the U.S. Navy. The ONI produces meaningful maritime intelligence and moves that intelligence rapidly to key strategic, operational, and tactical decision-makers. It is a core element of Global Maritime Intelligence Integration whose goal is complete Maritime Domain Awareness.
The ONI is established for the purpose of collecting and recording such naval information as may be useful to the Department in time of war, as well as in peace. It seek out and report on the advancements in other nations' navies.
