Open skies agreements refer to those air transport agreements which liberalizes the rules for international aviation markets. Open skies agreements can be bilateral or multilateral. These agreements are beneficial for passengers and all types of cargo.
The purpose of open skies agreements are:
minimizing government intervention; and
adjusting the regime permitting military and other state-based flights.
The EU-US Open Skies Agreement and The ASEAN Multilateral Agreement on Air Services are the examples of open skies agreements.
