Opinio Juris Communis Law and Legal Definition
Opinio juris communis refers to customary international law. State practice (in its objective content and in the light of the opinions expressed by states on its significance) is an important element of proof of the existence of a communis opinio juris. It may be gleaned through multilateral diplomatic, law-making activity, which does not require entirely consistent, obedience to rules on the part of states, or may be found through a consistent pattern of behavior.
