Original Appointment of an Armed Force Member Law and Legal Definition
According to 10 USCS § 101 (Title 10, Armed Forces; Subtitle A, General Military Law; Part I, Organization And General Military Powers; Chapter 1, Definitions), the term "original", with respect to the appointment of a member of the armed forces in a regular or reserve component, refers to “that member's most recent appointment in that component that is neither a promotion nor a demotion.”
