Racing Law and Legal Definition
Racing is a sport involving competitions of speed and distance which takes many forms, such as horse racing, car racing, and boat racing. Racing, especially horse and greyhound racing, may be connected to wagering. States that permit gaming often have a commission established to oversee the regulation of the industry, such as licensing of those employed in the gaming industry. Various federal, state, and local laws govern racing activities.
The following is an example of a state law dealing with car racing:
32-25-25. "Racing" defined. Racing is defined as the use of one or more vehicles in an attempt to outgain, outdistance, or prevent another vehicle from passing, to arrive at a given destination ahead of another vehicle or vehicles, or to test the physical stamina or endurance of drivers over long distance driving routes.
