Rack rent refers to the full yearly rent of a property let on a normal lease. The term also denotes excessive rent. This term is usually used in the context of hefty rent paid by a tenant farmer to the landlord. It applies when the rent is obtained by coercion. Rack rent is also used by the landlords to confiscate the poor tenants property.
