Recant Law and Legal Definition
Recant means to withdraw or repudiate prior statements or testimony formally and publicly.
The normal process employed when a witness recants is:
(1)the execution of a sworn affidavit; or
(2)sworn testimony is elicited from the recanting witness at the hearing on the motion for a new trial. [Jackson v. State, 164 Md. App. 679 (Md. Ct. Spec. App. 2005)]
