According to 46 CFR 8.100 (Title 46 – Shipping; Chapter I - Coast Guard, Department Of Homeland Security; Subchapter A - Procedures Applicable To The Public; Part 8 - Vessel Inspection Alternatives; Subpart A – General), Recognized Classification Society means “the American Bureau of Shipping or other classification society recognized by the Commandant under 46 CFR 8.100.”
