Referee in Bankruptcy Law and Legal Definition
Referee in bankruptcy is a federal judicial officer who administered bankruptcy proceedings under the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 1978. After abolition of the Bankruptcy Reform Act of 1978, the referees are replaced by Bankruptcy judges who preside over cases filed under the Bankruptcy Code. Referee in Bankruptcy is also referred as register in bankruptcy.
