Registered Trademark Symbol Law and Legal Definition
Registered trademark symbol is designated by ® (a circled R also known as a Racol derived from Registered & Authorized Company Logo). This symbol is used to provide notice that the preceding mark is a trademark or service mark that has been registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The federal registration symbol can be used once the mark is actually registered with the USPTO. Even when an application is pending, the registration symbol can not be used before the mark has become registered. The federal registration symbol should only be used on goods or services that are the subject of the federal trademark registration.
