Repeat Offenders Law and Legal Definition
A repeat offender is a person who has already been convicted for a crime, and who has been caught again for committing the crime and breaking the law for which he had been prosecuted earlier. The definition of the term and requirements related to a repeat offender vary depending upon the crime that is committed. For example, in the context of drunk driving, federal regulations governing the repeat offender requirements define a repeat offender as someone who has more than one DWI conviction in any five year period. 18 USCS § 2247 contain provisions related to repeat offenders for sex offenses.
