Response Zone [Transportation] Law and Legal Definition
According to 49 CFR 194.5 [Title 49 – Transportation; Subtitle B Other Regulations Relating to Transportation; Chapter I Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, Department of Transportation; Subchapter D Pipeline Safety; Part 194 Response Plans for Onshore Oil Pipelines; Subpart A – General], response zone means “a geographic area either along a length of pipeline or including multiple pipelines, containing one or more adjacent line sections, for which the operator must plan for the deployment of, and provide, spill response capabilities. The size of the zone is determined by the operator after considering available capability, resources, and geographic characteristics.”
