Restriction [Patent] Law and Legal Definition
If two or more independent and distinct inventions are claimed in a single application, then the examiner shall require the applicant to elect a single invention to which the claims will be limited to. This requirement is known as a requirement for restriction or a requirement for division. Such requirement is normally be made before any action on the merits; but, it can be made at any time before final action.
