Retorsion is a term used with reference to international law to refer to an act of retaliation taken by one nation against another as a reprisal. It occurs when a government, whose citizens are subjected to severe and stringent regulation or harsh treatment by a foreign government, employs the same treatment upon the citizens of the latter government within its borders.
