Run Off Voting Law and Legal Definition
Run off voting refers to a voting system whereby voters rank candidates in order of preference. In the U.S., run off voting is used where there are two round system to determine the majority. Instant run off voting is a form of run-off voting where the voters ranks the preference of candidates. In the multiple rounds of counting, low vote getters are eliminated. Voters cannot change their preference of candidates between the rounds.
