Tank Barge Law and Legal Definition

The term tank barge means a non-self-propelled tank vessel which is less than forty meters in overall length. A Tank barge is constructed or adapted primarily to carry liquid, solid or gaseous commodities or cargos in bulk through rivers and inland waterways, and may occasionally carry commodities or cargos through oceans and seas when in transit from one inland waterway to another. The commodities or cargos transported in a tank barge are in direct contact with the tank interior.
