Taxpayer Law and Legal Definition
A taxpayer refers to a person who pays taxes. A taxpayer is generally treated as the subject and object of the revenue laws. A taxpayer is also known as an exchanger in situations where a taxpayer has property which s/he intends to exchange for a new property.
The following is an example of a federal statute defining the term taxpayer. According to 26 USCS § 7701 (a)(14), the term "taxpayer" means any person subject to any internal revenue tax.
