Terrorist Designations Unit within the Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism of the U.S. Department of State publicly and officially identifies terrorists and terrorist organizations.
The Terrorist Designations Unit prepares designations for the Secretary's consideration and works to ensure their effective implementation. The legal consequences that flow from a designation include:
a. make it a crime to knowingly provide material support to a designated organization;
b. make it a crime to knowingly or intentionally have transactions or dealings with a designated individual or organization;
c. deny admission to, or deport from, the U.S. members, representatives and providers of material support to designated organizations; and
