The Rule Law and Legal Definition
The phrase ‘the rule’ refers to an evidentiary and procedural rule by which all witnesses are excluded from the courtroom while another witness is testifying. This phrase is mostly used in the American South and Southwest. However the practice of excluding witnesses from the courtroom while another witness is testifying is a universal practice.
