Third-Party Action Law and Legal Definition
A third party action is brought as part of a lawsuit which is already pending before the court, but distinct from the main claim. In a third-party action a defendant sues an entity not sued by the plaintiff when that entity shall be liable to the defendant for all or part of the plaintiff's claim. A common example of a third-party action is an action for indemnity or contribution.
