Ticker Symbol Law and Legal Definition
A ticker symbol is a series of letters used as a unique identifier of a stock or mutual fund. Stocks which are listed and trade on an exchange use up to three letters for their ticker symbols. Symbols with four letters are used for NASDAQ stocks. Symbols with five letters are used for NASDAQ stocks other than single issues of common stock. Symbols consisting of five letters ending in X are used for mutual funds. The ticker symbol is commonly used for placing orders with brokers and researching information on particular company or its stock
