Tour D`echelle Law and Legal Definition
Tour D`echelle is a term used in French law. French law recognizes the right of a property owner to obtain temporary access to a neighbor’s property so as to do maintenance work and repairs to their own property. A tour d'echelle is an easement arising from an agreement between neighboring landowners when one does not have sufficient space on its own land, to hold the bottom of a ladder while carrying out work on a party wall or buildings supported by that wall. This easement allows those who undertake such work or repairs to enter the neighbor’s property to hold the bottom of the ladder or scaffolding used for repair.
