Transmutation Law and Legal Definition
Transmutation generally means an act that changes the form or character or substance of something. It is most commonly used in reference to nuclear transmutation, in which the nuclei of elements are changed such as to create one or more new elements. Scientists seek ways to transmute radioactive waste into nonradioactive elements, thereby eliminating the radiological hazards and waste disposal problems.
