Trover Law and Legal Definition
Trover means a finding. A legal action for trover is based in the conversion of property, rather than its finding. It is brought to recover the value of personal property, wrongfully converted by another to his own use by a wrongful taking, some other illegal assumption of ownership, by illegally using or misusing it, or by a wrongful detention.
In order to bring an action for trover, the plaintiff he must have had actual possession or right to immediate possession. An action may also be brought by someone who had lawful custody of the goods with a right of detention against the general owner.
