Twelfth Amendment Law and Legal Definition
The Twelfth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution provides the procedure by which the President and Vice President are elected. It altered the Electoral College system by separating the balloting for presidential and vice presidential candidates. It was ratified in 1804. The Twelfth Amendment states that the electors should meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President.
