Tydings-Mc Duffie Act Law and Legal Definition
The Tydings-Mc Duffie Act of 1934 is a U.S. federal statute. The Act aims to provide independence to Philippines from the U.S by 1946. This Act is also known as the Philippine Independence Act. Thus the Act provides for the establishment of self-government for Philippines.
This Act provided to Philippines a constitution which can be adopted for a period of 10 years. In addition, the Act also provides for the maintenance of the U.S. naval base in Philippines for a period of two years after independence.
This Act paved the way for the Filipino Repatriation Act of 1935.
