Type Certificate [Aviation Law] Law and Legal Definition
A type certificate refers to an approval awarded by an aviation regulating body to aerospace manufacturers.
The administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration issues a type certificate for an aircraft, aircraft engine, or propeller, or for other appliance when the administrator finds that the aircraft, aircraft engine, propeller, or appliance is properly designed and manufactured, performs properly, and meets the regulations and prescribed minimum standards. On receiving an application for a type certificate, the administrator investigates the application and conducts a hearing. [49 USCS § 44704].
