Zoning district refers to a specific geographic area that is subject to municipal land use controls. Municipalities designate these areas and establish controls over types of land uses, density, and lot requirements in each zone. A zoning district will be designated in the zoning ordinance text and delineated on the zoning map, in which requirements for the use of land and building and development standards are prescribed.
